Holy Ghost College (HGC), now College of the Holy Spirit Manila (CHSM) was established in 1913 as a primary school in Legarda by the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit in response to the invitation of then Manila Archbishop Jeremias Harty. Dedicated to the Holy Spirit, its motto VERITAS ET CARITATE (Truth and Love), later restated as VERITAS IN CARITATE (Truth in Love) has grown and flourished through the years.

The first five Sisters who started the school in 1913 were Sister Hieronyma, Sisrer Gereona, Sister Laetitia, Sister Ludwiga and Sister Sebastiana. Other administrators continued the work they began. Sister Edelwina was the First Directress from 1920 to 1947. It was during her incumbency that the elementary school expanded and when high school and some collegiate courses where opened at the present site along Mendiola Street.

CHSM was an exclusive girl's school until 2005 when the high school admitted boys. Other courses accepted male students the succeeding years.

In line with the Congregation’s thrust to empower more lay people to take on greater responsibilities as mission partners in its ministries, CHSM introduced a new management team in 2011. Dr. Felina Co-Young, an alumna, was appointed as First Lay President of the College.

From a kindergarten school, CHSM has expanded into a College, ever seeking to adapt herself to the changing needs and demands of times, while anchored in the constant love of a compassionate God and in the power of the Holy Spirit. At all times, she continues to form young people who are truly humane and committed to the care of creation, professionally competent, critically conscious and stimulated to action towards building of communities.
